The DFS aeronautical chart ICAO - Rhine-Main (1:250,000) was developed to provide a more detailed visualisation of the airspace in the Rhine-Main conurbation.
It covers the airspace around Frankfurt Airport.
The presentation of air traffic control information on airspaces, aerodromes, radio navigation facilities and obstacles corresponds to the style of the 1:500,000 ICAO charts.
The topographical information on motorways, railways and waterways etc. is shown in much greater detail at a scale of 1:250,000. This means that terrestrial navigation is also possible in the vicinity of the commercial airports in the Rhine-Main conurbation, and the airspaces can be better utilised or avoided.
Due to its scale, the map is ideal for local flights as well as cross-country flights and is also ideal for microlight pilots.
The map contains the following elements:
- Current airspace structure
- VFR reporting points
- Aerodromes with name, location and frequency as well as runway length and orientation
- Information on direction finders and aerodrome beacons
- Information on the aerodrome circuit, representation of aerodrome altitudes
- FIS sectors with frequencies
- Gliding areas, areas for hang gliders, microlight aircraft, parachute drop zones and free balloon launch sites
- Radio navigation facilities (NDB, VOR, VOR/DME, VORTAC) with name, frequency and identification in Morse code
